Devon Barthold Final Project
I photographed the motion of indoor objects. I want to show the unique and abstract motion lines or patterns that are created from the use of a slow shutter speed and a moving object. At the beginning, I was not sure of the exact technique I was going to use to photograph the motion of these objects. I also was focusing on the motion of the object and how it interreacted with the plain backgrounds. But through class critiques I learned that I needed to focus in on the motion the object, the background left room for distraction and it did not help in the way I thought it would originally. Through trial and error, I learned that the best way to photograph the motion of indoor object is to use a tripod and have the objects move through the view of the camera. I originally wanted to focus on zoom photography but that was not a strong technique for the type of photographs I wanted. The zoom aspect gave the photographs a different look and took away from the actual motion of the objects. Now I find that my photographs focus in on the subject and motion blur that is formed from the movement of the object.
Originally, I wanted to do a mix of indoor objects and outdoor objects. The movement of outdoor objects were extremely hard to capture because of the lightning outdoors, I needed a long shutter speed which requires less light. After finishing my project, I am glad that I struggled with capturing outdoor motion, it forced me to find new and interesting objects within my house to photograph.
