Natalie Bygall - Final Project Proposal
Final Project
Proposal
For this
final project I intend on photographing books. I want to photograph this
subject because I feel that there is a lot that a book says that is not in the
words actually written in the book. Books are a way to escape and experience
something else even when you feel stuck where you are. Books leave a lot to the
mind in the way of creativity, and I want to show this in photos. Someone could
be sitting there quietly reading, but what is going through their mind is a
mystery. I want to share the idea that each book is its own kind of world. I
also want to express that everyone could read the same book, but have a
completely different view in it. Just like photography, books are interpreted
differently by everyone.
Throughout
the final weeks I plan to look through any photos already taken and see how I
can improve, or change, how I want to represent the emotion in a book. I want use
black and white photos for this project and would like to decide if this will
be more effective over critique. I want to use black and white because, like books,
this allows the audience to interpret the color of the photo themselves. I
think viewers will be able to relate to the feeling that reading can give a
person. Everyone has something that they use to ignore the “real world.” Books
are often up to interpretation in many ways, and so are photos.
One of
the biggest problems I see myself running into is actually interpreting my
thoughts through the camera. I have a few ideas, but still figuring out how I
am going to take enough photos to have the 10 we need for each critique day. Something
else that is not really a problem, but something that I am going to have to
figure out is using photoshop to make the images I have thought of already. I
know I can do this if I play with photoshop a little more.
