Carly Beyer- Final Project Proposal


For my final project I intend to continue focusing on the style and techniques I developed while working during the previous style assignment. I enjoyed the unusual and haunted feel to the editing style and the overall outcome of my photos. For the final project I do intend on changing some aspects of the images I focused on previously but keeping a similar overall feel. In other words, I would like to implement my own style into the style of Barbara Ess’s to create a mix for my final project.

During my time working on the style assignment I found that playing with movement and long exposure time was the most interesting photographs I’ve done so far. Continuing working with that technique and the editing techniques I previously mentioned will be my overall goal. I plan on focusing on photographing people and ordinary scenes to give a familiar feel underneath the weird editing style. I think focusing on capturing ordinary scenes would help bring a connection between the viewers and the photographs. Developing an interesting mixture of the work I did on the style assignment and my new approach to this assignment will hopefully create a set of images that viewers will want to engage with. I think people want to see weird or slightly abstract images.

During this final assignment I expect some of the difficulties I will run into is creating different images that are diverse enough from one other. Since my intended style is so specific, I worry that my images will begin to look too similar and blend into one another.

Devon Barthold 10 Style Photos

Dennis Hopper Born May 17th 1936, he started taking art classes when he was 13. He started out as an actor but he developed a bad reputation for being a difficult actor, he turned to photography in the 1960’s.  He used a Nikon 33 mm camera that his wife gave him for his birthday. He took a lot of monochrome photographs and when he photographed in color he focused in on the way the colors worked together. He has captured many politically driven photographs but he has also captured many portraits of friends and the people around him in life. He liked to colors as an abstract design and would often photograph graffiti from the gangs in Los Angeles. Sican proposal + style

1/ what do you intend to photograph? I want to capture the real identity of different people. I want to photograph people when they are doing something in their bedrooms. I will start by asking questions: what you usually do in your bedroom. I want to find out the unknown sides of them. So I will mainly focus on my close friends who I have known for a while and find out either dark, crazy, weird sides by asking questions. will use a wide-angle lens trying to show their personality through the room decorations. My subjects might not look at the camera. And I hope they are comfortable with what they are doing like there is without a camera and outside observer. 2- why do you want to photograph the subject?
