Chester's final project



My creative portrait project was inspired by movie and comics scene or poster where the part of the character’s face is being cut off and the viewer can only see half of the face.

 Eyes are one of the most powerful and complex organs of human body as eye contact is essential to communication in this society. Most emotions and facial expression involve eyes and can be reflected by the eyes. Oftentimes we can have a glance of a person’s mental and emotional state by a look at their eyes.

 With clues and references from the look, hair or background, although only half of the face is being presented, the viewer can have a blurry sense and guess of where those people are, what their personality is, and what the story may be. I would like to think this project is less of a description but more of an inspiration for the viewer’s imagination. Quote: “There are a thousand Hamlet in a thousand people's eyes.” Different viewer with different social and demographic background might have a different point of view of those portraits of people as It’s not about who are those people and what is the story, but more about how you see that based on your perspective and perception of people and race in this world.

Devon Barthold 10 Style Photos

Dennis Hopper Born May 17th 1936, he started taking art classes when he was 13. He started out as an actor but he developed a bad reputation for being a difficult actor, he turned to photography in the 1960’s.  He used a Nikon 33 mm camera that his wife gave him for his birthday. He took a lot of monochrome photographs and when he photographed in color he focused in on the way the colors worked together. He has captured many politically driven photographs but he has also captured many portraits of friends and the people around him in life. He liked to colors as an abstract design and would often photograph graffiti from the gangs in Los Angeles. 1/ what do you intend to photograph? I want to capture the real identity of different people. I want to photograph people when they are doing something in their bedrooms. I will start by asking questions: what you usually do in your bedroom. I want to find out the unknown sides of them. So I will mainly focus on my close friends who I have known for a while and find out either dark, crazy, weird sides by asking questions. will use a wide-angle lens trying to show their personality through the room decorations. My subjects might not look at the camera. And I hope they are comfortable with what they are doing like there is without a camera and outside observer. 2- why do you want to photograph the subject?
