Proposal - Emily Hannak

For my final photo project, I want to do something I haven’t done before. I want to challenge myself and develop my skills as a photographer. To do this, I propose to make my final project about the human experience. Taking inspiration from the work of Sally Mann and Richard Avedon, I want to implement their style with my own to capture unique people as they are in their life. I want to create a balanced mixture of portraits and subject images showing the details of the human face and body, as well as their professions or pastimes. Their environment may play a crucial role in the image or it may not. I plan on continuing the style of the aforementioned photographers by using black and white to enhance my photos and highlight the shadows, lights, and bold lines and shapes that people naturally have, as well as their surroundings. My main concern pursuing this project is a search for willing subjects. However, I believe the connections I’ve made this semester will greatly help me in this endeavor, as well as my time spent at several locations outside of Happy Valley between finals week and now. I am also concerned regarding the fleeting daylight, but I hope that my newfound experience with dim lighting conditions and artificial light will help me as well. I think people will engage with my photos because humans enjoy looking at humans most of the time, and they will recognize the familiarity of my photos but be captivated by the unique flare. I think will all of the skills I learned from this semester I can create something special for this final project.

Marc Wendelski Marc Wendelski is a geometrician anarchist, a meticulous amateur, a liberate surveyor. In his book “nage libre” he used his camera to capture landscapes and people. Devon Barthold 10 Style Photos

Dennis Hopper Born May 17th 1936, he started taking art classes when he was 13. He started out as an actor but he developed a bad reputation for being a difficult actor, he turned to photography in the 1960’s.  He used a Nikon 33 mm camera that his wife gave him for his birthday. He took a lot of monochrome photographs and when he photographed in color he focused in on the way the colors worked together. He has captured many politically driven photographs but he has also captured many portraits of friends and the people around him in life. He liked to colors as an abstract design and would often photograph graffiti from the gangs in Los Angeles. Sican proposal + style

1/ what do you intend to photograph? I want to capture the real identity of different people. I want to photograph people when they are doing something in their bedrooms. I will start by asking questions: what you usually do in your bedroom. I want to find out the unknown sides of them. So I will mainly focus on my close friends who I have known for a while and find out either dark, crazy, weird sides by asking questions. will use a wide-angle lens trying to show their personality through the room decorations. My subjects might not look at the camera. And I hope they are comfortable with what they are doing like there is without a camera and outside observer. 2- why do you want to photograph the subject?
