Final Proposal Koziel


For my final project I plan on photographing people on the streets. I choose this topic as I enjoy street photography. I want to focus on the people in the streets because everyone is so different that it keeps images interesting. I also enjoy how candid people are in street photography, showing their true feeling and/or style. For this project I plan on taking most of my photos in state college as I will be here for the most time and have the ability to revisit a certain location after a critique. But I also do want to visit Boston when I’m home to include other street photos from a different area and a larger city. I think having the ability to photograph in different locations for this project will allow for more diverse photos.
            I believe that viewers will want to spend time looking at my photographs because of the detail. Streets and human faces contain so much details that each image will have a lot for the viewer to look at. I also enjoy photography because you can take a photo in a crazy location but then sit in comfort while looking at it later. I want to capture the craziness of the streets so viewers can feel the rush of the city while viewing the photo.
            Some challenges I see coming up during this process are people getting angry because I take their photos. I have to be careful to not intrude on people’s personal space. I also have to be aware of what is private and public property as you don’t need approval if they are on public property. Another problem I face is not having the ability to restage a scene after a critique as all my images will be candid. Not being able to restage a photo won’t be the end of the world due to the fact I can go back to the same location but just photograph a different person.

Devon Barthold 10 Style Photos

Dennis Hopper Born May 17th 1936, he started taking art classes when he was 13. He started out as an actor but he developed a bad reputation for being a difficult actor, he turned to photography in the 1960’s.  He used a Nikon 33 mm camera that his wife gave him for his birthday. He took a lot of monochrome photographs and when he photographed in color he focused in on the way the colors worked together. He has captured many politically driven photographs but he has also captured many portraits of friends and the people around him in life. He liked to colors as an abstract design and would often photograph graffiti from the gangs in Los Angeles. 1/ what do you intend to photograph? I want to capture the real identity of different people. I want to photograph people when they are doing something in their bedrooms. I will start by asking questions: what you usually do in your bedroom. I want to find out the unknown sides of them. So I will mainly focus on my close friends who I have known for a while and find out either dark, crazy, weird sides by asking questions. will use a wide-angle lens trying to show their personality through the room decorations. My subjects might not look at the camera. And I hope they are comfortable with what they are doing like there is without a camera and outside observer. 2- why do you want to photograph the subject?
